After severe weather hit the 2014 FIL World Lacrosse Championships on Friday July 11, and a ninety minute delay, Team Iroquois would finally go up against Team England.  This would be the 11th appearance for England dating back to 1967 with their last appearance in 2010 placing fifth.  Team Iroquois was making their fifth appearance in the championships since 1990 and their first appearance since 2006 where they finished in fourth place.  Iroquois would come away with the victory 15-4 over England.

Everyone was excited to see the Thompson brothers, Jeremy (Florida Launch); Jerome; Lyle; and Miles (Rochester Rattlers) make their appearance for Iroquois, and fans were not disappointed.  The game started out slowly with each team only scoring once in the first quarter however it didn’t take long for Iroquois to have complete control of the game.  They would score six in the second and third quarters, and two in the fourth.  England would put only one goal on the board in each of the four quarters.

Team Iroquois saw Jeremy; Jerome; and Lyle all score three goals; Randy Staats would score twice; and Miles Thompson, Vaughn Harris, Brett Bucktooth (Vancouver Stealth), and Roger Vyse would all put a goal in net.  They dominated in face-offs with Harris winning 12 of 17.

Team England would have Samuel Russell score twice; with Nicholas Watson and Jack Brook each scoring once.  Throughout the game, England had problems; their defense wasn’t in sync, the offense didn’t click, and they were only 9 of 23 in FOW.

Neither team was successful in man-up opportunities, Iroquois 0-3 and England 0-4; but each had multiple penalties.
