Five Things to Watch at NLL Camp: Colorado Mammoth

Pollock, Iannucci Return: Casey Powell isn’t back, but the Mammoth have two of their most important scorers back in the lineup after they re-signed both Athan Iannucci and Sean Pollock. Having them back with the veteran oriented offense is huge.

Buque’s Role: Despite having Tye Belanger in the fold along with Dillon Ward, the Mammoth drafted goaltender Alexis Buque. With Buque in the fold, is there a chance Belanger is moved to the practice roster, or do they put their rookie ‘tender there? If Buque is on the practice roster, he can play in CLax.

American Signees: The Mammoth have several interesting signings heading into training camp, including DJ Lubs, Colton Porter, and draft picks Terry Ellis and Zach Rogers. What do they all have in common? They are American players. Colorado isn’t one of those teams who never signs Americans (ie Toronto, Calgary, etc.) but it sure is interesting to see them have this many. How many actually make the roster remains to be seen but nonetheless it is intriguing.

Record Breaking Offense?: John Grant Jr. has already broken records, but could the Mammoth end up with the league’s top offense? Iannucci and Pollock are back with Grant, and they also are expecting a full and healthy season out of Adam Jones. On top of that, they re-signed Joel Dalgarno and brought in Alex Turner, along with the third overall pick Eli McLaughlin to play offense on the left side.

Can Ward do it Again?: Dillon Ward broke out as the top goalie in Denver last season, but can he repeat his performance? Young goalies starting are a rarity in lacrosse anyways, so if Ward suffers a sophomore slump, where do the Mammoth stand?
