The Toronto Rock had an active week, trading for Brandon Miller along with several signings. One of those signings was defenseman/transition Jimmy Purves, who had been released by the Rochester Knighthawks.
” I am very excited to be joining the Rock” he told In Lacrosse We Trust. “I have been waiting all year for a chance to play and am happy the Rock are going to give me an opportunity”
Purves split time with Buffalo and Rochester last season where he played 13 games and scored four points with 30 penalty minutes. He has 11 career points since 2011, when he was drafted by the Bandits.
“I play a hard nose gritty style of defence with the ability to get the ball up the floor” Purves told us about what he can bring to a Rock team that desperately needs defensive help.
“I can definitely bring help to the Rock’s defence and will be working hard to help the team get in the playoffs and make a run”
Toronto has struggled allowing more shots on goal than any team in the league, which is one reason they added Miller, to assist with goaltending. But the real issue might be the defense itself, which Purves will be a welcome addition to.
“My job is to keep the other team from shooting and getting into the shooting lanes and to make it as tough as possible for the opposing team to get to the net.”
