Kingfish Try to Win on Local Talent

The Rhode Island Kingfish are at a disadvantage somewhat with bringing in local talent. Players from the New England area would likely prefer to stay closer to Boston. No problem for Rhode Island, except they have the Boston Rockhoppers to compete with.

No matter, the Kingfish still brought in local talent, and their roster is mostly built off of that. While teams like Baltimore and Kentucky are getting the fanfare, Rhode Island will try their best to not make it easy for them.

Goaltending

Rhode Island will be starting Brandon Noble as their goalie most likely. Noble has won a Mann Cup with the Brampton Excelsiors and played his junior lacrosse with Barrie and Burlington.

The Kingfish also brought in Joe Evans for the 2013 season. Evans has spent time playing with the Vermont Voyageurs as his highest level of lacrosse before NALL.

Offense

Dan McIssac has played with the Rockhoppers and he was a first round pick of the Kingfish. He was the leading scorer with the Whitby Warriors Jr A team this season. They also picked up Steven Boyle, who was a top scorer with the Rochester Rattlers this MLL season with 27 points.

The number one overall pick was in the Kingfish’s possession, Mike Maggio, a former attackman who saw some time with the Boston Cannons.

Matt Smalley was also added. He has been a big part of the Cannons offense the past few seasons, and especially helped when they won the MLL Championship in 2011.

Parker Brown is a very interesting pick up, and he could do some damage on that offense. He played attack in college with the Brown Bears, where he earned his way to become a starting attackman getting a lot of playing time.

The Kingfish drafted three Rochester Greywolves as well, James Schutt, AJ Laffin and David Kemp.

Defense/Transition

Ryan Licht will play some defense with the ‘Fish after playing four games with the PLL this season. They also picked up Craig Bunker, a star faceoff man with the Rattlers. Bunker will play transition and handle most of the faceoff duties for the Kingfish.

JJ Gilibane was drafted by the Boston Cannons last year and played well with Cornell in college. In the indoor game, he will play transition.
