Knighthawks Re-Sign Batson

The Rochester Knighthawks have announced the re-signing of Jamie Batson to a one-year deal. The 29-year-old defenseman has won three Champion’s Cup since joining the team in 2012.

“It’s good to be asked to come back out with the champs,” said Batson.

The Comox, BC native made the jump to the National Lacrosse League after impressing the coaching staff at the Knighthawks’ Open Tryouts and Training Camp. In his tenure with the team, Batson has played in six games and notched 19 loose balls. His breakout season was in 2013 as he appeared in five games, collected 18 loose balls and was honored as the winner of the Knighthawks’ Most Improved Player award.

Batson has earned a reputation as one of the fittest and strongest members of the team, which was evident during fitness testing the moment he joined the team.

“Batson could be one of the fastest defenseman in the league,” said Assistant Captain Mike Kirk. “He’s fast, strong and hits hard. He fits very well within our defense because of his hard work, coachability and his desire to get better.”

This summer, Batson was one of the standouts for the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks of Major Series Lacrosse. He appeared in 18 regular season games and played in five playoff games, where he put up five points (2+3).

“He’s gained a lot of experience playing with us and in the summertime,” said Knighthawks Head Coach Mike Hasen. “We expect him to come into camp and battle for a spot.”

Batson will return to the turf on Saturday, November 22nd when the Knighthawks open Training Camp at Total Sports Experience in East Rochester.

“I’m looking forward to getting back on the floor,” he said. “It will be good to get out there and compete again.”
