Lakers Develop Talent With NLL Draftees

October 8, 2015

Two more Peterborough Lakers have the opportunity to crack NLL rosters this season. The MSL team already boasts a multitude of pro talent and has committed to developing players coming out of their junior system as well. This past season they welcomed draft eligible junior Lakers grad Turner Evans, as well as acquiring Chad Tutton’s rights from the Brampton Excelsiors. Evans, the cousin of Shawn and Scott, was 5th on…

2015 MSL Season In Review: Chiefs and Lakers Reign Supreme

September 21, 2015

Another summer is in the books and now it’s time to reflect on the season that was. In a six team league, anything can happen. 2015 was a great year for Major Series Lacrosse, with more teams than ever loading up to bolster their rosters and attempt playoff success. Four teams battled for positioning in the bottom four, with the most parity seen maybe ever in the MSL. To nobody’s…

Mann Cup Diaries: Wrapping Up

September 17, 2015

Well, here I am back home, and reflecting on the past week in Victoria, BC, at the Mann Cup. What an experience. The Victoria Shamrocks reclaimed the Mann Cup for the WLA, the first time since 2005. They did it in probably the hardest fought, closest series there has ever been. My team lost, and that still stings and will for awhile, but I made a lot of good memories…

Lakers Fall Short in Mann Cup Run

September 14, 2015

The Peterborough Lakers are mad about the way they lost the Mann Cup, and they have every right to be. The Victoria Shamrocks won the 2015 national championship after a 12-6 game six win on Friday night at The Q Centre. They won the series 4-2 to claim their first Mann Cup title since 2005 – also the last time a Western team won it. The MSL won nine consecutive…

Mann Cup Diaries: Day Six

September 10, 2015

The Trip Today I met a seal, an otter, and a wooly mammoth. Only two of the three were actually alive. Hopefully you guessed correctly which two! We spent the afternoon at Fisherman’s Wharf, which was an amazing place featuring floating businesses and houses, all painted bright colours. We got ice cream from a floating ice cream parlour and watched people feed two harbour seals. One had a bad eye,…

Mann Cup: Both Teams Show Strengths

September 9, 2015

Deadlocked in virtually every single way with the Peterborough Lakers, the Victoria Shamrocks may be closer to bringing lacrosse’s holy grail back to the west coast since they last did so in 2005. But a cautionary tale for the Shamrocks lies ahead, who led the Six Nations Chiefs 2-1 in the past two Mann Cup’s, only to lose three straight games both years. Just one goal separates the two team’s…

Mann Cup Diaries: Day Five

September 9, 2015

The Trip We’ve settled into our new hotel nicely. Today we visited the Victoria Butterfly Garden and Butchart Gardens. They were both beautiful spots and I wish we’d had more time at them both. I liked the Butterfly Garden more because of the turtles and flamingoes that roamed around. While the Butchart Gardens were gorgeous, they didn’t have the animals to give them that extra something like the Butterfly Garden….

Holden Cattoni Joins Lakers at Mann Cup

September 8, 2015

Holden Cattoni, a junior A Lakers standout and recent graduate, was given permission to join the Lakers for the duration of the Mann Cup from Johns Hopkins, his university in the US. Cattoni was supposedly fly out on Friday but has his flight cancelled by weather, so he arrived Sunday instead. He was thrown right into the lineup in game three as the most sensible choice to replace Adam Jones,…

Mann Cup Diaries: Day Three

September 7, 2015

The Trip Today was an off day, so there was no game to watch. Most of the fans went sightseeing. I walked around downtown Victoria with my dad for several hours, visiting Chinatown, the Empress Hotel, Miniature World, and the inner harbour area. Being by the water was so peaceful. It was so obvious how much of a tourist destination Victoria is—there were about eight shops between our hotel and…
