The Colorado Mammoth announced on Wednesday that the team has trimmed its roster to 32 following the opening weekend of training camp. Three defensemen – DJ Giacobbo, DJ Lubs and Zach Rogers – were released, leaving 12 at the position still in the mix. Colorado must reduce its roster by 12 players by late-December, per NLL rules. The Mammoth continues training camp the first weekend of December in Vancouver, British…

What We Learned: Colorado Mammoth Camp

November 20, 2014

NLL training camps have opened, and that means we are finally starting to learn how team rosters will take shape. The Colorado Mammoth were the second team to open camp. Here is what we learned. Rookies Better than Expected: Steve Govett said it, and so did a lot of other players after camp ended. Robert Hope and Eli McLaughlin are looking like studs early. It sounds like McLaughlin looks even better than…

The team traded for Noble, the second overall pick, by sending Johnny Powless, a former fifth overall pick, to the Vancouver Stealth on the day of the draft. Two sources confirm that the Colorado Mammoth are interested in the services of the Denver resident. Noble played at the University of…

Could Denver Take The Crown in ‘15

November 17, 2014

Photo Credit: Ian Neadle Denver has been knocking on the door for the last five years to the title game.  This season could be their best chance to raise the Championship Trophy.  How will they be able to get there? It starts with Wes Berg and the attack.  The attackmen that have been coming through the ranks of the Pioneers have done great things for them.  Berg’s 2014 season nearly…

Five Things to Watch at NLL Camp: Colorado Mammoth

November 15, 2014

Pollock, Iannucci Return: Casey Powell isn’t back, but the Mammoth have two of their most important scorers back in the lineup after they re-signed both Athan Iannucci and Sean Pollock. Having them back with the veteran oriented offense is huge. Buque’s Role: Despite having Tye Belanger in the fold along with Dillon Ward, the Mammoth drafted goaltender Alexis Buque. With Buque in the fold, is there a chance Belanger is…

MCLA Fall Ball: Metro State U. (Denver) Wins Strong vs. In-Conference Rival Johnson Wales U.

November 5, 2014

Photo Credit:  Di Miller On Sunday November 2, Metropolitan State University of Denver Men’s Lacrosse (5-1) took on rival Johnson Wales University at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City.  It was a cold night and factoring in the time change, made for an interesting game.  Turf field #8 that MSU calls home is poorly lit making the late start to the game a challenge for both teams.  MSU ended…

MCLA Game Notes: Metro State Takes on Johnson & Wales in Fall Ball Scrimmage

November 3, 2014

This was my (Ian Neadle) first time seeing MCLA lacrosse in person. I always considered a downgrade from the NCAA level. I was wrong. The players are smaller and the intensity is lower. However, the referees are not qualified (in my opinion) to call a game with higher intensity such as NCAA (some officials were quite terrible). The heart and will are there, and the players make the most of…

Can LXM Survive After Merging with the MLL?

October 30, 2014

This is the time of year when there is a lull in the professional lacrosse world.  The MLL has wrapped up and the NLL preseason hasn’t officially started.  Right about now is typically when the LXM Pro Tour has started up in the past to bring high level lacrosse to non-traditional areas around the country.  We reached out to Adrenaline, who is the force behind LXM to see what their…

Prospecting 2014: Top NLL Transition Players

October 28, 2014

Transition is an interesting position in the NLL.  Every team approaches it differently as some make them glorified defenders or just forwards that won’t get yelled at if they are stuck in the back end of the floor.  Others such as Minnesota and Buffalo make them a large part of how they want to act as a team by causing turnovers, pushing the ball up the floor and creating mismatches…
