Calgary Roughnecks 2014 Season Preview

As the clock ticks down for the start of the 2014 NLL season, the Calgary Roughnecks are gearing up to try to get back to the Champion’s Cup, something they haven’t been able to do since 2009. Calgary has, however, finished the regular season at the top of the West Division standings for three years in a row, so the expectation is that they will retain their status as the…

Why Isn’t the NLL on TV Yet?

The NLL is continuing to grow at increasing rates and with that popularity comes more spectators and followers. Though live sporting events are fun the majority of sporting spectatorship comes from household living rooms and restaurants: cable and TV broadcasting. Therefore, it would make sense for lacrosse to create their own network, just like the NFL Network, NHL Center Ice, MLB Network, etc. The simple question: Why isn’t TLN (The…

NLL Season Preview: Edmonton Rush

Lacrosse fans in Edmonton have been waiting to get behind a winner for most of their seven seasons.  Coach and General Manager Derek Keenan has finally brought stability to the lacrosse operations side of the franchise and the crazy Brodie Merrill/Paul Rabil/Athan Iannucci nightmare that looked like it totally unravelled on him, ended up landing Edmonton lacrosse fans Mark Matthews, their version of the Big White Hope. The challenge for…

NLL Season Preview: Buffalo Bandits

After the dismal performance of the 2013 NLL season (that saw the Bandits the only team outside looking in regarding the playoffs, tied for the moast goals allowed and the second lowest scoring output in the league), I believe that Buffalo Bandits General Manager Steve Dietrich, Head Coach Troy Cordingley and the Bandits scouting staff have done an incredible job in the offseason to assess the problems that the organization…

Hominuck Retires, Bandits Move On

Mike Hominuck made the official statement of his retirement over this past weekend, according to NLL and Buffalo Bandits sources. The 20-active-man rosters were due by noon today (Monday) and Hominuck only made the Bandits’ decisions easier. In my own opinion, Mike was not a do-or-die asset for the team either way, and if Mike had stayed he would be cut or had minimal impact. Hominuck played “nine” seasons in…
