Tonight in the WLA the New Westminster Salmonbellies (3-4) host the Burnaby Lakers (3-3) a win for either of these teams will place them in a tie for third place in the WLA with Langley. New Westminster is coming off a tough loss to Maple Ridge as they fell 17-15. The good news from that loss though is that New Westminster’s offense is beginning to come into from as 15 goals is the most they have scored in one game this season and it is a good sign as they did it against a very good Burrards team. The Lakers on the other hand are rolling as they have won their last three games including victories over Victoria and Langley. The Lakers owe their success to Scott Jones as he has been on fire ever since his return from injury as he has scored 11 goals and had 5 assists in three games along with being named WLA player of the week. This will be the first meeting between these two teams this season and both will be trying to get a win to improve their position in the WLA standings.
The Salmonbellies in this game need their offense to played like they did against the Burrards because if they can put that much pressure on Lakers goalie Dan Lewis they will be able to build a lead that the Lakers will not be able t overcome. New Westminster will need to continue to get the ball in Jordan McBride’s stick as he has been the spark plug for the Salmonbellies offense. The Salmon bellies will also need Neil Tyacke to step up his game and make some big early saves in order to give the Salmonbellies time to establish their offensive game and get a lead.
The Lakers in this game need to continue to spread the ball amongst their offense as Scott Jones, Colton Clark and Dane Steven all have hot sticks right now and have been putting everything they touch in the back of the net. The Lakers have been impressive over their last three games as they have played solid defense and shutdown both Langley and Victoria’s offenses and will need this same kind of defensive performance against the Salmonbellies in order to win this game.
In the end this will be a close game in which the Lakers will prevail as they have been clicking recently and will find a way to beat the Salmonbellies.
