Mag: One on One with Jovan Miller

InLax Magazine spoke with Charlotte Hounds midfielder Jovan Miller in the April edition. Randy Maykrantz conducted the interview, and you can read it below.

ILWT: All right It took a while in the making but here we go.  So the Hounds have made a lot of moves in  the offseason.  I know we have not traded for any Syracuse players but what do you think of the new prospects?

JM: I believe we have made a lot out of the moves. I’m no GM but from the MLL website I’ve seen all the transactions so it seems like we’re taking the necessary moves for a successful season.

ILWT:  Speaking of successful season’s what do you expect from the upcoming season?

JM:  I believe our team getting to Philly would be a successful season and we’ll see from there.

ILWT:  I could see that as a possiability with the additions made in the offseason.  In Syracuse and where I was raised, NoVA, Lacrosse is much bigger and we watched it evolve rapidly.  How do you feel the sport is progressing in the Charlotte area?

JM:  I think its great. Since I’ve moved here I seen like 5 or 6 different lac organizations. The game is on fire right now

ILWT:  I agree with you I really enjoy watching the rapid growth.  I am curious about your movement  Jovi Nation, but first if you don’t mind tell me more about the Warrior boycott, I completely understand  your reasoning and we don’t need to repeat what was said, however I feel our readers need to know.

JM:  The Jovi Nation is a movement within a state of mind. Its honestly a way in which you conduct yourself and make sure to stay true to yourself. It pushes individualism. As far as the Boycott is concerned, although I took the fall, I along with the scarce amount of blacks in the lacrosse world, drew offense to a Warrior slogan. After a number of discussions I had with some of the more prominent blacks in the sport such as Kyle Harrison and Chazz Woodson, I was not satisfied with just stating out disapproval of the slogan. I threatened to retire from the MLL which is sponsored by Warrior, if the slogan posted by Warrior was not ended.

ILWT:  And for our readers Warrior did eventually discontinue the use of the slogan.  Honestly Javon I respect you for standing up for what you believe in.  Back to you I want to hear some bold predictions.  How many goals are you going to score this year?  Also where is our full page add claiming Championship in the  Charlotte Observer.

JM:  My goal is 15, 4 of which to be 2 pointers. As far as the Charlotte Observer is concerned, I’ve put to much emphasis on my life outside of lacrosse to do something like that. Its just a “put up or shut up” type of mentality I have going forth.

ILWT:  Perfect well I have complete faith in your talents and I can’t wait to see the games next year.  Thanks for your time hopefully you will spend some more time with us in the future.

JM:  Thank you so much for having me, I appreciate the space.
