The Vancouver Stealth held their free agent camp this weekend and we caught up with a goaltender who attended it, Matt Flindell. The Stealth free agent camp hosted many familiar names such as Jamie Shewchuk, Alex Gajic and goaltender Matt Flindell, a Victoria Shamrock and former Calgary Roughneck.
“”It went pretty good, I could have player better but feel like I improved as it went on.” Flindell said. “Most of the players were right out of junior so never seen them before so had an adjustment period.”
Four goaltenders attended the camp and Flindell was the only one with NLL experience. “It was a fun weekend lots of lacrosse in short period of time, the new facility was perfect location for the camp. Challenge for NLL camps are short period of time to show your stuff, sometimes hard for a goalie to stand out with out playing exhibition games or playing real game pressure and atmosphere, I find that is my strength and sometime struggle to shine in drills.”
Flindell is a British Columbia native and has seen the success of lacrosse in BC, and thinks the Stealth have their work cut out for them, but that they will find success. “It’s always hard to judge how lacrosse teams will draw in Vancouver, WLA teams don’t get many fans but if the team wins the fans will come.”
