MLL ASG 2013: Boston Cannons

The Boston Cannons will have four players representing them at the MLL All-Star game in Charlotte, North Carolina. The four are Kevin Buchanan, Mike Stone, Paul Rabil, and Kyle Sweeney. For Sweeney and Rabil this will be their sixth All-Star game, while for Buchanan it will be his third All- Star game, and Stone’s second.

Heading into the All- Star weekend Boston has saddled into fourth place at 5-5.

Unfortunately at the moment we do not know which teams the Cannons players will be on due to the new playground style draft that will occur prior to the on the eve of the game. The teams this year are named after a celestial occurrence, Supernova and Eclipse.

For Paul Rabil, who just took over as the league leader in points, this will be All-Star game number six. Rabil has been able to come on extremely strong in the last few weeks. He leads the league with 43 points thru the 10 games played. Rabil is one of the biggest names in MLL history and will be a big attraction in Charlotte this weekend.

Kyle Sweeney is also making his sixth All- Star appearance this weekend. Stone is one of the top defenders in the league, and is Boston’s number one defenseman. Sweeney is near the top of the list for scoring by defensemen. He is extremely dangerous in transition and will have a big impact for whichever team he plays for in the game.

Kevin Buchanan is heading into his third All-Star game. Buchanan is fourth in points for Boston, behind league leader Paul Rabil and fellow All- Star Mike Stone and Mike Poskay. Buchanan has been the go to attackman for Boston, which totes a potent midfield offense. He has really benefitted from Boston’s acquisition of Stephen Berger. This trade that happened at the trade deadline has added another offensive power and allows Buchanan to find the soft spots in the defenses more and more.

The fourth member of Boston’s All- Star contingent is Mike Stone, who is heading to his second All- Star game. Stone is second on the Cannons points list behind Rabil. He benefits a lot from Rabil usually drawing the LSM, which leaves Stone on a short stick match up. Stone can create a lot of havoc and confusion with his speed and ability to be a truly outstanding downhill dodger. Stone will have a lot of upside after the All- Star weekend and in the rest of the season.

The All- Star game will be at 7pm EST on ESPN2 on Saturday 13 of July.
