The Charlotte Hounds have been at camp for two weeks and this afternoon will wrap it up in scrimmages against Denver, Florida and Chesapeake in Baltimore. The Hounds are preparing for their opening game against the Ohio Machine at home.
“Knowing Adam Ghitelman had some early season schedule conflicts, we’re excited about Mike Gabel and Pierce Bassett,” Hounds general manager Wade Leaphart told us about who stood out. “Both looked great. Overall, our returning core group of players is solid.”
Unlike other leagues, MLL rookies are not able to play in camp, due to the fact they still play NCAA. This means teams still don’t see who can handle the pro level during camps. Leaphart told us he sees two or three of their prospects to immediately be on the roster and others may get in with injuries to the roster.
Leaphart also said about Joe Cummings, who they traded for from Ohio, “Another highly productive season. Cummings is awesome, on and off the field.” Leaphart also says that the player pool acquisitions for the Hounds, after they had the most in the league, have looked strong all camp.”
