MLL in NCAA: Championship Edition

Senior – Jake Tripucka – Midfield – Charlotte Hounds – Duke Blue Devils

Senior midfielder Jake Tripucka scored two goals and two assists for the Duke Blue Devils (16-5) in a 16-10 win over Syracuse (16-4) to capture their second national championship in four years.  The 42nd overall (sixth round) pick by the Hamilton Nationals in 2013 added three goals and one assist in Saturday`s semi-final victory 16-14 versus Cornell (14-4).

In 2013, Tripucka finished fifth in team scoring career high 21 goals and 23 assists for 44 points in 20 games.  

Through four years at Duke, including capturing two national titles, Tripucka scored 91 points (45G, 46A).

He now joins the Hamilton Nationals (4-0) when they travel to Chesapeake to take on the Bayhawks (3-1) on Saturday June 1st.

Senior – Chase Carraro  – Midfield – Ohio Machine – Denver Pioneers

The Ohio Machine’s (0-4) 13th overall pick in 2013 finished his collegiate career on a losing note after a 9-8 loss to Syracuse in the national semi-finals.  Denver’s (14-5) main faceoff man picked up one goal and 12 faceoff wins on Saturday afternoon.

After 15 games in 2013, Carraro scored six goals and two assists and won 167 of 289 faceoff attempts.

The Louisville, KY native will hope to bring a change to the Machine’s roster when they face the Rochester Rattlers (1-3) on June 2nd in Rochester.

Senior – Jason Noble – Defense – Hamilton Nationals – Cornell Big Red

The Nationals 10th overall selection in the 2013 collegiate draft registered one loose ball and one minute in penalties after suffering a 16-14 loss to Duke in Saturday’s semi-finals.  The Orangeville, ON native played his final game for the Big Red after an outstanding 2013 season.

In 2013, Cornell’s starting longpole picked up 53 groundballs and caused 34 turnovers in 18 games.

Noble will now join Tripucka and his fellow National’s teammates on June 1st versus the Bayhawks.

Senior – JoJo Marasco – Midfield – New York Lizards – Syracuse Orange

JoJo Marasco and his Syracuse Orange came up short on Monday afternoon in a 16-10 loss to Duke in the National Championship.  Marasco scored two goals and added one assist in the Memorial Day Classic.

In Saturday’s semi-final, Marasco led the Orange to a 9-8 thriller over Denver with two goals and three assists.  

The Yorktown Heights, NY native and 37th overall pick in 2013 by the New York Lizards led all Orange players in scoring in 2013 with 66 points (24G, 42A) in 20 games.

Marasco will bring an added touch on offense for the New York Lizards (2-2) when they host the Charlotte Hounds (1-3) on Friday May 31st at 7:30 pm.
