MLL in the NCAA: Manny Better Than Ever

Senior – Mike Sawyer – Attack – Charlotte Hounds – Loyola Greyhounds

The Charlotte Hounds first round (7th overall) pick in 2013 led the Greyhounds (10-3) over Hobart (6-7) in a 19-11 win.  Sawyer dominated the offense scoring four goals and two assists on Saturday.  

The Waxhaw, NC native and Greyhound Co-Captain is second in team scoring this season, recording 27 goals and six assists (33 points) in 11 games played.  

The Greyhounds close out the 2013 regular-season on Saturday, April 27, at 1 p.m. when they travel down Charles Street to face Johns Hopkins University (8-4).

 

Senior – Brian Megill – Defense – Denver Outlaws – Syracuse Orange

Denver Outlaws 7th overall pick and Syracuse Orange (10-3) longpole picked up one win and one loss this past week.  On April 16th, Syracuse was upset by Hobart (6-7) by a score of 13-12.  Brian Megill had one groundball and one caused turnover in the loss.  Syracuse was able to get past the Georgetown Hoyas (5-8) in a tight game on Saturday, winning 9-8.  Megill registered three groundballs and one minute in penalties after crushing senior Travis Comeau late in the first quarter.  

In 2013, Megill has started all 13 games for the Orange, tallying one goal, one assist, 34 groundballs and 20 caused turnovers.

Syracuse hosts the No.1 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish (10-2) in their last regular season game of the year on April 27th at Metlife Stadium in the annual Konica Minolta Big City Classic.

 

Senior – Will Manny – Attack – Boston Cannons – UMass Minutemen

UMass (6-7) attackman Will Manny recorded his single game career high sixth assist of the game with 13 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to propel the Minutemen past the Hofstra Pride (7-6) in a 9-8 victory.  Manny tallied six assists in a remarkable comeback win after being down by five goals at the start of the fourth quarter.

The 2013 Tewarraton nominee has had an outstanding season to date, despite missing five games due to injury.  He has managed to play in eight games, registering nine goals and 15 assists and sits fourth on the team in scoring.

The Minutemen finish off the regular season when they host Delaware (5-9) on April 26th at 7 pm.

 

Senior – Chase Carraro  – Midfield – Ohio Machine – Denver Pioneers

Ohio Machine’s 13th overall pick in 2013 recorded 10 faceoff wins in 20 attempts on Saturday afternoon.  The Denver Pioneers lost a 10-9 OT heartbreaker to Fairfield (8-5).  Carraro also registered two shots on goal and three groundballs in the loss.  

In nine games this season, Carraro has started eight, scoring two goals and one assist, while recording a .551 faceoff percentage (81-147).  He also has 42 groundballs in 2013.

Denver hosts the Michigan Wolverines (1-12) in the last regular season game of the year at 2 pm on April 27th.
