MLL Rookie Focus: Kip Orban

Kip Orban

Midfielder, Princeton University

6’2, 200 pounds

Drafted by the Charlotte Hounds Round 3, 19th overall

2014:

Orban finished the season as the Tigers’ fifth leading point scorer as he scored 21 goals and handed out eight assists for a total of 29 points. Orban is a pure goal scorer who can stretch a defense with his cannon of a shot. He also has the ability to get his hands free quickly and release the shot in an instant. Check out the game-tying goal he had in Princeton’s come-from-behind victory over Lehigh from last season.

2015:

Orban will share the burden with junior Jake Froccaro and sophomore Zach Currier as they try to replace Prineton legend Tom Schreiber at the midfield position. Orban should see a bump in his statistics as some of Schreiber’s opportunities get spread over the midfield. Expect Orban to score close to 30 goals this season and showcase more of his skills.

MLL:

Orban should see a lot of time for the Hounds whenever he joins the team as the Hounds are generally weak with midfielders who are comfortable playing offense. Outside of Mike Chanenchuk, Jake Tripucka and Terry Kimener, the Hounds are loaded with defensive middies and faceoff men in Josh Hawkins, Pat Laconi, John Haus, Brendan Fowler and Tim Fallon.

Orban may not exactly light up the box score but fans can expect a 10 point season from him as he gets used to the pace of play that comes with playing in the MLL.
