MSL Finals: Chiefs and Lakers Go to Game Seven

Tomorrow, the most exciting two words in sports will take place: Game Seven. The Six Nations Chiefs and Peterborough Lakers will face off in game seven of the Major Series Lacrosse finals to determine who will face the Victoria Shamrocks in the Mann Cup.

The Lakers have come back from being down 3-1 in the series and won last night without their goaltender Matt Vinc. Tyler Carlson stepped in net and held the Chiefs to nine goals.

The game was a one goal Chiefs lead late in the third period when Jeff Shattler tied the game with just eight seconds remaining. The Lakers took a 9-8 lead thanks to John Grant Jr before Roger Vyse tied it for the Chiefs in overtime.

Grant scored again and the Lakers never looked back as they took a 10-9 victory over Six Nations.

Shawn Evans led the contest with seven points, three of them goals. Grant had four points and Cory Vitarelli two goals. Shattler led the Chiefs with five points and Cody Jamieson had four. Johnny Powless, a recent call up from the Minto Cup champion Six Nation Arrows, scored four assists.

Vinc should be back in the cage tonight for the Lakers, which should help immensely despite the big game from Carlson.

“It was a hard fought game by both teams. It’s hard to be mad at a game like this,” Shattler said in a post game interview. “The bounces went their way tonight and we’ve got to pull up our socks and play the game of our lives in Game seven in Peterborough.”
