The North American Lacrosse League is exploring the possibility of adding a team in Rochester, N.Y. as part of its 2014 expansion plan. Sources confirmed that several potential ownership groups from Rochester have shown interest in the North American Lacrosse League (NALL). Currently, teams from five cities compete in the NALL: Baltimore, Boston, Kentucky, Lehigh Valley and Rhode Island. The Rochester expansion team would play at the Henrietta Dome, located just outside the city at the Monroe County Fairgrounds. Dr. Sev Hrywnak, who owns the Rochester RazorSharks of the Premier Basketball League, is currently in the final stages of acquiring the facility.
The new owners plan to spend several million dollars modernizing the 40-year-old building. Plans include increasing the seating capacity to 7,000 and possibly installing an ice rink.
“The prospect of a new NALL team having its first season in the renovated Henrietta Dome is very exciting,” said Dr. Hrywnak. “There will be many great improvements and amenities for the teams and fans to enjoy at the new Rochester Sports Dome once the renovations are finished.”
The North American Lacrosse League is a new professional indoor league that began in January 2012. Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in America with over 550,000 participants and a growth rate of over 200 percent since 2001.
