This last weekend was filled with a number of fall ball classics and series. The most notable were the Nick Colleluori Fall Classic and the Play for Parkinson’s Series.
Both tournaments were held on October 5 and 6, with some of the best teams coming out to give a great show for their fans and other spectators.
The NCC was held in Folsom, PA and had St. Joseph’s, Monmouth, Lafayette, VMI, Hofstra, and Villanova among other D2 and D3 teams playing in the weekend long classic. The Games were great and very well played. While scores played out like this:
St. Joe’s 11, Monmouth 5
Lafayette 10, VMI 2
Binghamton 13, Hofstra 8
Villanova 11, St. Joe’s 6
Lafayette 9, Binghamton 7
VMI 8, Monmouth 6
Villanova 8, Hofstra 6
Monmouth, being the lone first year program in the field, was easily the most intriguing team on the field. They were able to stick with St. Joe’s athletically for most of the game, but fell short in the scoring department. Monmouth really didn’t have the college level lacrosse experience that almost all the other teams in Folsom had. Monmouth did give VMI all it could handle later in the day. They will be one of the teams to watch for in the next couple of years.
Down in Virginia the Play for Parkinson’s Series was marred in a little bit of controversy after the Air Force was unable to travel due to the government shutdown. Although Air Force was not able to attend the series the games still went on.
Towson 9, Richmond 7
USA Blue 17, Loyola 6
USA White 26, Towson 4
USA White 7, USA Blue 1 (abbreviated game)
These were the only scores found, and being that the emphasis was mostly on Team USA and new-comer Richmond most of the other games were less of an interest to most.
