NCAA Growing Women’s Game, Too

UMass-Lowell has started their new women’s lacrosse program by hiring Carissa Medeiros as the new head coach. Being that it is UMass first year in Division I, Medeiros coaching background (she spent the past six years at Bentley) should help the team really get off their feet in what is a very tough division. While this program is not set to begin until 2015, this early hire shows the preparedness of this up-and-coming squad.

In addition to UMass, the lacrosse world can also welcome VCU to the list of new women’s lacrosse programs, making their debut during the 2015-16 seasons. VCU also hired an experienced young coach in Jen Kasper O’Brien.

After spending the past five years as an assistant coach at Johns Hopkins, who were ranked in the top-40 nationally in goals scored per game, O’Brien is finally getting a head coaching opportunity heading a talented young team.
