NCAA: Loyola Faces Towson

Today, we will see national champion Loyola go up against inner state rival Towson. The Greyhounds made mince meat of the Tigers last year, picking up a 13-6 win.
Towson has started the season 0-2, but has shown sparks of greatness.

In a Lax.com interview, Hopkins Head Coach Dave Pietramala said, “They came out aggressively. They came out physically…That’s a much better Towson team than they showed against High Point.” Compliments like this from the Hopkins coach should be taken seriously.
This past weekend, the Greyhounds took on Delaware and beat the Blue Hens 9-8. It took the green and gray all they had to win the game, with Chris Layne scoring the winning goal with four seconds left in regulation.
With the compliments from Pietramala, Coach Toomey should be weary of the Tigers and the fight they can put up.

Leading the black and yellow is sophomore attackman Cory Dobyns with six points (6G, 0A) on the season. Behind him is fellow sophomore midfielder Rob Zoppo, who has tallied one goal and three assists so far. Andrew Wascavage has made 25 saves so far this season. He will be tested often and early versus the Greyhounds offensive unit.
Justin Ward (3G, 2A) will be the top concern for the Towson defense, as he leads the Greyhounds with five points.

Not to forget Chris Layne and Mike Sawyer, who have combined for five points. Davis Butts will be in the back of everyone’s mind, as he is waiting to break out. Scott Ratliff will probably have the pleasure of taking on Rob Zoppo, as well as continuing to be the offensive threat he usually is. Jack Runkel made 11 saves against the Blue Hens, but will need to be on his toes and looking out for 14 on the Towson offense.

Game time is set for 7PM tonight at Johnny Unitas Stadium.
