Boston University Opens First NCAA Season

NCAA PREVIEW—MERCER @ BOSTON UNIVERSITY (MEN’S)

At 1:00 pm this Saturday, the Boston University Men’s Lacrosse team will travel to Georgia to take on Mercer Bears. For BU, this will be a historic game, as it is their first match-up in Division I lacrosse.

Last season, Mercer was one of the worst in Division I, while the Terriers had been competing as a club in the previous seasons. This will be their first year playing as a varsity team, and Mercer should be an appropriate opening match-up to help test their abilities.

BU is composed of 29 freshmen, so this is a team that will be able to grow together and improve over the next several years. Mercer, also a young team, has not had a winning record in the past several seasons, and it should be interesting to see how they can handle the newcomer on Saturday.

Despite this being Boston’s first Division I game, I expect them to play very well. Coach Ryan Polley has spent the past year and a half putting together the best coaching staff, and working players in preparation for this season. This is more time than most coaches get to prepare their squad, and while there may be a few bumps in the road, the Terriers will walk away with a 15-9 win over Mercer, marking the beginning of their winning ways in NCAA lacrosse.
