NCAAW Power Rankings Week 3: Tarheels On Top, Orange in the Hunt

In week four we say goodbye to Loyola Maryland, who fell out of the Top 10 after falling to 2-2 on the season. Their loss; however, is someone else’s gain as Johns Hopkins is the latest undefeated team to crack the power rankings.

  1. North Carolina (6-0)-Like many fans, I cannot wait to see this team take on Syracuse on April 12th. It is very possible that both teams remain undefeated until then, making the result of that game even more exciting. At 116 goals on the season, the Tarheels are number one this week.
  2. Syracuse (6-0)-The only reason the orange are #2 on this list is because they have slightly less goals on the season than North Carolina at 105. Like the Tarheels, they just keep winning, and it’s a guessing game at this point as to who will take them down first.
  3. Maryland (6-0)-Maryland is just going through the motions at this point, defeating every opponent thrown their way. A conference game against undefeated Syracuse should be the best competition they have seen all season.
  4. Florida (6-1)-After losing their first game, the Florida has won six straight, dominating nearly all of their opponents. On March 15th they with face Syracuse University who still remain undefeated.
  5. Massachusetts (5-0)-UMass is seeing nothing but “W” as they continue to be one of the most dominant teams in lacrosse. They have yet to play a conference game, so stay tuned for their first one coming up on April 4th against La Salle.
  6. Boston College (4-1)-On Saturday, BC defeated Connecticut 15-3, their best win of the season. The Eagles are quickly becoming a dominant team in NCAAW lacrosse, and they still have weeks to improve further before they face North Carolina on March 22nd.
  7. Northwestern (3-0)-At 3-0, the Wildcats have played the fewest games so far this season. Tonight, the face Notre Dame, hoping to continue their win streak, because after tonight the road only gets tougher.
  8. Johns Hopkins (5-0)-This season, JH has won all but one of their games by a wide margin, but has somehow fallen into the shadows of North Carolina, Syracuse, and Maryland. Come playoffs, they could be the best team that everyone forgot about.
  9. Duke (3-2)-Duke has lost back-to-back games against league powerhouses Maryland and Northwestern, but look to turn things around tonight against Georgetown.
  10. Notre Dame (3-2)-The Fighting Irish pulled out a good win against Virginia Tech on Sunday, but tonight they face the ever consistent Northwestern. On Notre Dame’s side, they have played more games, but Northwestern still remains undefeated.
