NCAAW Preview: Delaware at Georgetown

The Delaware Women’s Lacrosse team is heading to Washington, DC this weekend to take on Georgetown.

Delaware is 1-1 in their exhibition game score, and they are hoping that they will be able to have a competitive match this weekend. Delaware was picked to place fourth by the coach’s preseason poll, and they are excited to play against Georgetown this weekend. Both teams have a strong defense and a skilled offense, so it will be interesting to see the outcome of this match.

The Delaware Blue Hens have a few things to brag about, including their solid midfielder and captain, junior Caitlin McCartney. She was named to the preseason all CAA team. She has been a key player for the Hens since she debuted as a freshman, and this season she is looking to lead her team to victory.

Georgetown was selected to finish first in the Big East, as determined by the coach’s preseason poll. Coach Ricky Fried is hoping for a huge year, despite the loss of nine talented seniors last season. The Hoyas have some very talented players returning to the program this season, including senior goalkeeper Barb Black. Black has ensured Georgetown’s success over her past three seasons, and says that this one will be no different. With Black starting the year as captain, alongside her ace defender and top midfielder co-captains, Georgetown has great leadership to back up the talent on the team, so they are looking forward to having a winning season.

Saturday’s game will be interesting, especially because there are a lot of significant and talented players on both sides.  I think that Georgetown’s experience in the goal against Delaware’s offense will be quite the show. The match begins at 1 pm.
