This weekend the #9 Virginia Cavaliers will host the #8 Penn State Nittany Lions in Charlottesville, Virginia.
This game will be the fourth home match in a row for the Cavaliers, and their 4th matchup against another top 10 team. They are hoping to have a successful game after their unsatisfactory performance against Syracuse last weekend.
They have a few standout players that will make great contributions to the level of play this weekend. First, Courtney Swan is leading the Cavs with scoring so far this season, holding onto a strong 15 goals and she is looking to increase her record with this weekend’s game against Penn State. The Cavaliers also rely on senior attacker Liza Blue who has scored five goals this season. They have been working on their defensive skills, and are hoping to step over the Nittany Lions in the ranking this weekend.
The Nittany Lions are excited to travel to Virginia and compete to climb the NCAA rankings and hold their one-spot lead over the Cavaliers. The team defeated Duquesne 11-7 on Tuesday Night. The Blue and White had a very successful game because of the combined efforts of the defensive players and their skilled attackers. Senior Defender, Evan Foulsham caused three crucial turnovers that helped lead PSU to victory. Emi Smith (goalkeeper) stayed strong in the net, thus leading the Nittany Lions to victory.
The girls are hoping to continue the level of play this weekend when they take on the Cavaliers, and the team leaders are confident that the Lions will keep the level of play high and take out UVA.
