NLL Three Stars: Regular Season Concludes, Playoffs Loom in Near Future

The NLL saw a lot of odd performances this weekend as top teams struggled early in games and non-contending teams held their own. In the end, the big guns projected to continue into playoffs were able to pull off victories (Rush, Rock, Mammoth, etc.)

With playoffs right around the corner now, many teams will look to prepare extra or begin their off seasons with restructuring and drawing boards.

First Star: Matt Vinc–Rochester Knighthawks Goaltender

Matt Vinc makes my three stars again this week for another stellar performance in the cage. Against the Bandits this past weekend, he held a .741 save percentage by stopping 40 of 54 attempted shots. Not only has he been a large contributor to Rochester’s 2014 success, but has also been a direct, individual impact on holding the Bandits back during their turnaround season. It seems many hiccups Buffalo had were due to Vinc in goal during Knighthawks games. Vinc stayed consistent all season and looks for even better postseason play.

Second Star: Adam Jones–Colorado Mammoth Forward

Adam Jones tallied up seven points in the Mammoth’s season ending game against the Philadelphia Wings. He personally found the back of the net five times, and assisted in two goals. Don’t forget he’s a big factor in the Mammoth’s turnaround during the second half of 2014. This season, he’s accumulated 39 goals, 26 assists, 158 shots and 65 loose ball recoveries. Look for him to help Colorado contend in postseason games.

Third Star: Logan Schuss–Minnesota Swarm Forward

In the Swarm’s loss to the Toronto Rock this weekend, Schuss still managed to be the Runner of the Game. He scored two goals and had three assists. I’m personally always a fan of teamwork and give more attention to feeders than scorers (I was one myself).

Schuss was a large portion of the Swarm’s few victories this season, and spectators should expect big things from him over the offseason and in next year’s 2015 season.
