The Calgary Roughnecks opened their preseason on Saturday night with a 16-11 victory over the Colorado Mammoth. The victory came on the heels of Calgary extending forward Curtis Dickson to a three-year deal.
Tyler Digby, one of the newest members of the Roughnecks, scored a goal in the third quarter. Digby was acquired by the Roughnecks from the New England Black Wolves when Calgary sent former MVP Shawn Evans to New England.
Jeff Shattler led the Roughnecks with eight points; four goals and four assists. Jason Jones added a hat trick and three assists, while Dane Dobbie had five points total. Rookie Wes Berg put up four points.
For the Mammoth, it was the first time on the floor in the preseason as well as they opened their slate against Calgary in Langley, British Columbia. Dillon Ward played for three quarters in net while Zak Boychuk closed out the contest.
“Going in, we were excited to see what the new guys could bring, and for the guys who have been here before, what they’ve improved on in the offseason,” said Mammoth Director of Player Personnel Dan Carey on a team press release from their website.
Newly-signed Mammoth forward Callum Crawford scored three goals as he donned the Mammoth maroon for the first time. Sixth round pick defenseman Jordan Gillies surprised with two goals himself. Second-year pro Eli McLaughlin scored twice, along with Mammoth veteran Adam Jones. Rookie Tom McKee scored once.
