NLL Transaction Roundup: Roughnecks, Knighthawks, Swarm

Harnett Bold

The NLL pre season is less than a month away, and teams are getting their rosters in order. Free agency is hitting its end, and teams are building their training camp teams in preparation of their scrimmage games.

The Calgary Roughnecks signed two of their defenders early in the week, bringing back Dan MacRae for a year and Jon Harnett for two. MacRae has played for the Roughnecks for six seasons, his entire NLL career, where he’s posted 66 career points and has become one of the league’s more solid defenders after being a fifth round pick.

Harnett joined the Roughnecks after a two year stint in Boston, and the 28-year-old has become a core defender. With 70 career points, Harnett has been an anchor in a defense that has seen several players come and go over the years.

Rochester signed three non-roster free agents in Mike Triolo, Dylan Goddard, and Chris Shevins. All three players partook in the team’s rookie camp.

Triolo is a former third round pick out of Buffalo but didn’t crack their roster. The 6’7″ defender is also ept at the offensive end of the field, and could help an aging defense.

Goddard was also drafted bu Buffalo, and also spent some time in New England. The former Green Gael was an excellent Jr B player, but hasn’t made the additional jump.

Shevins played for Detroit Mercy in college, where he was the teammate of Joel Matthews and Jordan Houtby, who are also Knighthawks. Shevins has limited field lacrosse experience, where he was a strong defender.

The Georgia Swarm placed Jesse King on the PUP list, where he is likely to start the season, and it might indicate they will add another roster player soon. David Earl was also released, making the former prospect a free agent.
