Offseason Check In: Army

Army’s Black Knights will take on both St. Johns and Manhattan this weekend in some fall ball action. The game schedule is Army vs. Manhattan at 11 a.m. followed by St. Johns right after at 12:45p.m.

All games on the day will be free to watch. These games are great for coaches on all the teams to see how their players have progressed since fall ball started and to see who can help the team come springtime.

For Army they return John Glesener who is an All Patriot League player and had 57 points last spring. Army returns a tone of talent from last year including Will Mazzone 32 points and Connor Cook 30 points.

For a team like St. Johns they are a team that has been knocking at the NCAA tournament’s door the last few years. They will look to make the extra push this season. They will also be looking to fill the role left by Kieran Mcardle who graduated last year and went off to be MLL rookie of the year.  Some players to watch out for this weekend include Canadian Stefan Diachenko, who had 21 points in 2014. Also, midfielder Nick Sherry has played mostly defense in the last three seasons but may have a break out year on offense in 2015.

Manhattan looks to improve on their 5-10 record in 2014. Andrew Hurst comes back as leading scorer with 25 points. In net, Michael Wiatrak only made three saves last year, not much to analyze.

Army has some questions, hopefully some will be answered this weekend.
