We continue our series of one on ones from the 2014 US Lacrosse Convention with two members of team USA: Brett Schmidt of the Charlotte Hounds and Dave Lawson of the Rochester Rattlers.
Brett Schmidt—Charlotte Hounds
How did you get into the sport?
In Philadelphia, it was just this sport I started seeing around more and more. Not that many people played it but I fell in love with it as soon as I picked up a stick. I started in second or third grade and haven’t looked back. It has been my passion ever since.
Any advice for younger players?
Continue to have fun. There is so much pressure on the kids now with recruiting and everything. Just play the game—lacrosse is a great game, have fun and the rest will take care of itself as long as you dedicate yourself to getting better.
Dave Lawson—Rochester Rattlers
How did you start playing lacrosse?
I hated baseball. When you don’t play baseball you have to do something else; I started playing lacrosse, fell in love with it and never looked back after that.
Any advice for the younger players?
Play as many sports as you can and be active. I played a ton of sports growing up. I didn’t just focus on lacrosse until I got to college.
