The President’s Cup took place the last week to crown the champion of the Senior B lacrosse circuit, which included Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec, Six Nations and the CanAm League.
The champions? The perennial powerhouse Onondaga Redhawks of the CanAm League.
The Redhawks defeated the Six Nations Rivermen of the Ontario league by a score of 9-7 last night. Lyle Thompson of Albany NCAA stardom, led the tournament with 40 points while Jerome Thompson had 31.
The Rivermen would have become the third team to win a title in Six Nations this summer (maybe fourth if the Chiefs won too) but it was not to be against the Redhawks, who tore through the CanAm in the early summer.
St. Albert from the Rocky Mountain League in Alberta won the bronze medal as well when they defeated the Kahnawake Mohawks, who win the Quebec Senior Lacrosse League after defeating Ottawa in their league.
Kahnwake and Onondaga finished at 5-1 in the tournament with St. Albert and Six Nations finished at 4-2. Tri-City from the British Columbia league was 2-4 and Awkwesane of the Six Nations League (Three Nations Lacrosse League) finished at 0-6.
Warren Hill from Six Nations won the top goalie on the all star team. Two Thompsons (Jeremy and Lyle) also made the first team, with John Lintz of the Edmonton Rush and St.Albert making it as a top defender. Caleb Wiles of Kahnawake (Vancouver Stealth) made it as well.
The second team saw former NLL goalie Dave Marrese, and players Peter Jacobs and Wayne Van Every.
