Outlaws Stay Perfect

Friday May 31 the Denver Outlaws hosted the Boston Cannons at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. The Outlaws came away victorious and are a perfect 5-0. The Hamilton Nationals are the only other undefeated team (4-0). Boston fell to 1-4, their only win coming at home against the defending champion Chesapeake Bayhawks.

Even though the Cannons scored the first goal of the game, and went 24-38 at the faceoff X, the Outlaws offence showed how powerful it can be, putting 24 past the Boston goalie.

The Outlaws scored four 2-point goals, which were the only of the game. Jeremy Seiverts had 2, along with 3 goals and an assist. Drew Snider was named the game’s MVP, he scored 5 goals, and one 2-point goal.

For Boston, Paul Rabil who leads the league in points so far (25) and is second in goals scored (14) had 2 goals and 5 assists. Mike Stone and Matt Poskay each scored 4 goals, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with the Outlaws high-powered offence. Even 3 penalties against Denver didn’t give the Cannons enough opportunity to stay in the game.

The second quarter had the biggest impact in this game; the Outlaws scored 5 goals and held Boston to only 1. Jesse Schwartzman had a great game, earning the win and made 15 saves on 27 shots on goal.

It will be tough for any team to match the Outlaws goal scoring ability this season. Through five games, half of the top 10 points scorers are Outlaws. Next week they take on the Hamilton Nationals at home. The Boston Cannons will face the Rattlers in Rochester.
