ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Chesapeake Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse announced their protected 23-man roster for the 2018 season on Monday, alongside a trade announcement which introduced Steele Stanwick, formerly of the Ohio Machine, to the Bayhawks squad in exchange for a 2019 2nd round collegiate draft pick.

As the Bayhawks and Chesapeake Sports & Entertainment Group continue the initiative to build an MLL-dedicated stadium in Maryland, maintaining a focus on the Bayhawks’ home base and surrounding communities is as important now as its ever been. The organization is committed to building a team of “All-In” committed players, coaches and front office staff who embody the Bayhawks values on and off the field.

“I’m proud of the guys on our 23-man roster not only for their abilities as some of the most skilled lacrosse players on the planet, but also for who they are as men – in their communities, in their families, and how they carry and conduct themselves outside of game day,” stated Bayhawks general manager Dave Cottle. “As the discussion of our 23-man roster continued, it was clear Steele Stanwick checked all the boxes. He’s a talented attackman with proven success on the field, and being a local guy, he has the passion for his community and commitment to the growth of the game of lacrosse that we are looking for.”

Stanwick, the 2011 Tewaaraton Trophy winner and two-time USILA First Team All-American, currently serves as assistant coach to Johns Hopkins University’s women’s lacrosse team. Making his MLL debut in 2012, Stanwick was drafted second overall to the Ohio Machine, where he led his rookie class with 17 assists that season.

“I am certainly excited to join the Bayhawks, the pro team I grew up watching and rooting for as a kid,” Stanwick said. “I was a Bayhawks fan and went to a lot of games when I was young so to be able to put on that uniform and represent my hometown is pretty cool. It’s a great organization with great history.”

Chesapeake Bayhawks President Mark Burdett echoed the sentiment, “We are excited to announce our 23-man roster and passionately welcome Steele Stanwick to the Bayhawks organization. As we continue to work hard to find our new full-time Head Coach we are extremely pleased with the level of candidates that have shown serious interest in the position. The move away from part-time coaching is a significant challenge and will require a level of focus and attention to the team and the brand the MLL has not seen to date. The character and the commitment of our players weighs just as importantly as their skill and we believe our 23-man roster represents all the above. The need to create positive chemistry on the field in 2018, it is an imperative.”
