Denver University and Penn State will meet for the sixth time in program history, and Denver has won three of the previous matches, while the Nittany Lions have won two.
The Nittany Lions are amidst the highest ranking that the program has ever had, and are only looking to increase their ranking. The team is coming off a road win at Ohio State last weekend, and they are hoping to continue a trend of success at Denver this evening.
Penn State’s Kyle VanThorf received the CAA player of the week title after scoring a career-high five points against the Buckeyes. His CAA honor is the third for PSU this season, accompanying the two earned by Shane Sturgis. Sturgis is going to be a huge factor in tonight’s game, as he is leading the nation in number of goals scored. He definitely brings a huge edge to the Lions offense. Austin Kaut has also had a remarkable last season with PSU, as he holds a record of 34 saves. If the defense and Kaut can perform together, the Lions have a great chance of defeating Denver.
Penn State can expect a few challenges from Denver, including their fast-pace offense. The Pioneers are also enjoying their high morale coming off a win against Notre Dame in the Pacific Coast Shootout last weekend. They have a few standouts that are leading the way to their victories. First, freshman Zach Miller has had a great debut season holding second place on the team with 19 points. The Pioneers also have junior midfielder Erik Adamson bringing the heat on the field. Adamson had a career high six goals against ND last weekend.
Overall, this will be an exciting game as both teams have high morale coming into the match and incredible players on both offense and defense. The clash begins at 9 pm EST.
