The Kahnawake Rapids took home the 2014 Ales Hrebesky Memorial Tournament with a 5-2 win over the Clarington Green Gaels. The Rapids went into the tournament as one of the strongest teams, highlighted by current and former NLL players such as Logan Kane, Mike Thompson, Alex Kedoh Hill, Roger Vyse and Brandon Francis.
In the final game, the Gaels hit seven posts while scoring just the two goals, one of which came from CLax player Dylan Goddard. Clarington had beat the Boston Megamen earlier in the day to advance to the championship.
The Czech team LCC Custodes took the bronze medal while the Megamen came in fourth. The Nova Scotia Pioneers took home the fifth seed and the Austrian Vienna Monarchs in sixth.
The offensive player of the tournament was named Alex Kedoh Hill of the Rapids. Mike Thompson of the Rapids also took home best goalie, while the best defensive player went to Brad MacArthur of the Gaels.
The all-star roster was named goaltender Scott Komer (Boston), defenders Ian Crawford (Kahnawake) and Emil Moravec (Custodes), and offensive players Dylan Goddard (Clarington) and Bryan Bendig (Boston).
MVP of the tournament based on points was Dominik Pesek of the Custodes. The most lopsided game of the tournament saw The Privateers top the Wolves 14-0, while some of the tighter games included the Gaels 3-2 semi-final win over Boston and the 5-2 win for Veinna over Turku.
The tournament kicked off with chaos as the Kahnawake Tomahawks did not travel to Prague, but in the end the event was a success, with the Rapids taking home the championship.
