Red Devils One Win Away From OJBLL Finals

The Wallaceburg Red Devils are one win away from making their first trip to the OJBLL finals in franchise history after defeating the Six Nations Rebels last night 12-11.
The fifth seed Red Devils upset the top ranked Rebels on their home floor at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena for the second time in the Western Conference finals.
In the first period, Wallaceburg hopped out to a hot start scoring the contests first 4 goals. The Rebels did not find the back of the net until 19:23 of the first period.
Six Nations head coach Stew Monture must have put a fire under the Rebels’ behinds as they came flying out the gate in the second period scoring a pair of goals in the first two and a half minutes.
David Veitch responded with a goal to improve the Red Devil lead to 5-3 at 15:33. The Rebels closed the gap again with a powerplay goal from Dallas John with just over two minutes remaining in the second frame.
Shortly after Clint Lamarsh tallied his second goal of the game making the score 6-4 with under a minute to go. The Red Devils weren’t done for the period just yet. With one click left on the clock, Branden Lilley scored with the extra attacker on the floor.
The first half of the third period kept the scoresheet blank as no goals or penalties were registered for the first ten minutes.
Daniel Henhawk broke the third period deadlock as he put one past Red Devils tender Brennor Jacobs. Tony Doxator put the game within one goal with just over five minutes to play in the third.
Clint Lamarsh registered his hatrick goal in a clutch fashion on the powerplay with 1:10 minutes remaining in the third period to make the score 8-6.
With 29 seconds to go, Jordan Durston headed to the box for interference and would send the Rebels to the powerplay.
Tony Doxtator scored on a 6 on 4 opportunity with the extra attacker to bring the game within one goal but ten seconds remained on the clock. Unfortunately for the Rebels, ten seconds would not be enough to tie the game and send it into overtime.
Red Devils’ Veteran goaltender Jacobs continues to shut down his former teammates as he picked up his seventh victory of the 2012 playoffs.
Jacobs was picked up at the beginning of June to help with a playoff push but the expectations have been exceeded as the Devils are four wins away from a trip to the Founders Cup. Jacobs has been a key part to the post season success of the Red Devils.
Alongside Jacobs, the trio of Rob Pollock, Jordan Durston and Clint Lamarsh have been dominant in the offensive zone for the Red Devils. Pollock currently leads all scoring with 61 points. Durston leads in goals with 31 and is one point back from scoring leader with 60. Lamarsh who currently sits in third, has climbed up the scoring leaders during the current series. Lamarash has tallied an outstanding 21 points in the last three games.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday at 8:00 pm in game four at what is sure to be a filled Wallaceburg Memorial Arena as almost 1,000 people were in attendance for game two.
The defending Founders Cup champs find themselves in a must win situation for the remainder of the series and will need to dig deep. Although they are hosting this years Founders Cup, there is no doubt they would like to go into the tournament, not only as hosts but as two time Ontario Champs.
