Led by MVP Mike Stone, the Boston Rockhoppers defeated the Kentucky Stickhorses 26-13 to win the first ever North American Lacrosse League championship.
Kentucky was able to hang in with Boston most of the first half until things blew up in the second quarter. Goaltender Patrick Crosby was pulled and Spencer Lyons was put into the game, and the flood gates opened as he allowed 16 goals over two and a half quarters.
Stone led the game with six goals to led the Rokhoppers while Jon Hayes and Andrew Kirkaldy also scored three goals a piece. Boston was without some key players in Ryan Hotaling, Tommy Palasek and Tim Fallon and were still able to romp the 2-5 Stickhorses.
For Kentucky, they saw a hat trick from Brandon Dube and Travis Bland but the rest of the offense was non existent as the Stickhorses struggled to bury one behind Vincent Talbot.
Once again the Stickhorses had trouble on transition allowing several fast breaks to a Boston team that likes to run and gun. They didn’t make any adjustments on defense or offense since their last contest, and that’s why they lost this game.
The North American Lacrosse League 2013 season has come to a close with a league champion in Boston. What will the rest of the year hold for the NALL?
