Roughnecks Re-Sign MVP Shawn Evans

The Calgary Roughnecks announced today that the National Lacrosse League club has signed 2013 NLL MVP Shawn Evans to a new two-year contract, pending league approval.  Evans, who was entering the final year of a three-year contract, is now signed through the 2015 season.

Evans, a native of Peterborough, Ontario, captured the NLL’s 2013 scoring title with a career-high 112 points (32 goals, 80 assists), surpassing the franchise record of 104 points set by both Josh Sanderson (2010) and Lewis Ratcliff (2007).  His 112-point season was highlighted by his league-leading 80 assists which ranks second all-time in the NLL for most assists in a single season and is also a career high.  Evans finished the 2013 campaign tied for fifth in the NLL with 12 power play goals and tied for 10th overall in goals (32).

The 29-year-old forward recorded 10 or more points in five games last season, including a 13-point effort against Colorado, the highest single-game point total posted in the NLL in 2013 and a franchise record.  Evans, who was named to the 2013 NLL All-Pro Team for the second-straight year, also matched a franchise record for most assists in a single game when he added nine assists three times last season.

Evans, acquired from the Rochester Knighthawks in September 2011, has spent two seasons with the Roughnecks, recording 64 goals and 127 assists for 191 points in 32 games.  The eight-year NLL veteran has amassed 554 points (207 goals, 347 assists) in 125 career games played with Rochester and Calgary.
