Roughnecks Talk: Moleski Adds D to Roughnecks

This off season we plan on going one on one with every general manager in the National Lacrosse League to discuss the latest news. We spoke with Mike Board of the Calgary Roughnecks this week. Below are notes on three main areas of pre season talk with NLL teams.

Free Agency: We are in contract discussions with both Andrew McBride and Scott Ranger. Jeff Moleski is a warrior. We feel he adds a lot to our back end as a solid defender and a leader. We feel fortunate that, as an unrestricted free agent with options, he chose Calgary.

Draft: We are looking for players who can come to our team and compete for a spot on the roster, both on offence and defence.

Pre Season Battles:  You always want to see players develop and advance in the league. Sometimes that is tough for young players, particularly with teams that have a lot of veteran depth. Three players that come to mind are Marty Dinsdale, Travis Cornwall and and Tor Reinholdt. Peter had a very good summer in junior on the west coast with Nanaimo and Coquitlam, including playing in the Minto Cup. We expect him to be at camp, continue to develop and battle for a spot.

We feel we have a team that can contend. We don’t feel we need a full-on re-build. The addition of a player like Jeff Moleski certainly helps. Adding youth to the line-up through the draft always bring enthusiasm and competition for spots. That keeps everyone hungry. We can’t be complacent because, every season, every team improves their team be it through free agency or the draft, where it seems more and more good players are becoming available each year.
