Swarm Defeat Rock in Overtime on Hass Goal 13-12

The Toronto Rock suffered their second loss of the 2013 season after falling to the Minnesota Swarm 13-12 in overtime. The loss leaves the Rock with a 5-2 record thus far.

After a slow start, Toronto found themselves trailing 4-2 at the end of the first quarter. The Rock would attempt to claw at this lead throughout the game, ending the remaining three quarters with the score tied at 7-7, 9-9 and 12-12, respectively.

A goal by Tyler Hass, his third of the game, 4:30 into the overtime frame proved the  winner for Minnesota.

Stephan Leblanc led the Rock in a losing effort with a 1 goal and 6 assist performance. Captain Colin Doyle contributed 5 points in the loss.

Garrett Billings was one of three Rock players to register 4 points in the game, along with Blaine Manning and Josh Sanderson. Heading into Saturday evening, Billings leads the league in points (40) and assists (31). Manning’s pair of markers saw him reach 300 goals in his NLL career.

Kasey Beirnes registered a hat-trick to lead all Rock players in goals, while Scott Evans found the back of the cage twice for Toronto.

Toronto goaltender Nick Rose stopped 41of 54 shots in the loss. Tyler Carlson recorded the win for Minnesota with 35 saves on the night.

The Toronto Rock will look to rebound next week when they take on the Calgary Roughnecks at home Friday, February 15 at 7:30 pm.
