Takeaways: Hofstra 10, St. Johns 7

Hofstra beat St. Johns Tuesday night at home 10-7 in a  game that was close the whole way. Korey Hendrickson scored first for Hofstra after getting an unassisted goal. St. Johns came right back after junior Eric DeJohn scored a rip of a shot from the outside.
Both teams traded of goals for the rest of the first half going into halftime tied at 3-3. In the third period it was mostly St. Johns as players Nick Sherry got his first of the game and Stefan Diachenko and DeJohn got their second of the contest.
The fourth quarter was all Hofstra though players Brier Davis  got his second goal on the night while star attackman Sam Llinares was being guarded pretty good most of the night by All Big East defender Mark Difrangia  who also had an assist.
Sam showed why he is Hofstra’s best player after only having a goal going into the fourth. He scored two straight goals and had two assist contacting on his second one with Davis who finished the game with three goals while Sam ended with five points of his own and had a highlight reel goal in the fourth.
Dianchenko scored St.Johns lone fourth quarter goal finishing with three goals while DeJohn had three points on the night. Hofstra also dominated at the face off Kris Clarke won 14 of the 21 draws taking during the game. Ryan Rielly also had a strong playing playing LSM he had five ground balls for a team high tied with Clarke. Also made a St. Johns offensive players stick go flying after Ryan picked up the ground ball and taking it down the field and shooting.
Ryan also picked off a pass and took a St. Johns shot off his body. In goal Chris Selva made seven key saves for Hofstra while St. Johns net minder Harry Burke made eight. Hofstra 3-4 will take on UMass next and St. Johns 2-6 will take on Holy Cross.
