The Future of Team USA in Ten Players

Team USA is struggling to hang onto players. Casey Powell and Ryan Boyle are out while injuries have left some players not at their best. We take a look at ten players who will be the future of team USA in 2014 and beyond.Joe Fletcher

The Loyola defenseman, Fletcher is the only one on our list who is not yet a professional player. Fletcher will be a first round pick in the 2014 draft to be certain, sporting the following credentials; 2012 national champion, All-Tournament team in 2011, All American and ECAC defenseman of the year twice. This Greyhound will be a member of team USA for a long time, and head coach Richie Meade said he earned the spot on intangibles.

Ryan Young

Young was a breakout star in Major League Lacrosse this season with the Charlotte Hounds, helping lead them to the playoffs and to the franchise’s first championship game appearance. It took him about a year to get going, but he is becoming one of the most feared attackmen in the sport.

Marcus Holman

Holman picked up eight points at the tryout last week and along with Logan Schuss and Steele Stanwick is becoming the offensive leader for the Ohio Machine. He led the North Carolina Tar Heels into the NCAA quarter finals this past season.

Rob Pannell

Pannell was one of just two players to notch double digit points in games during tryouts, and that other player was Matt Danowski. The former Cornell stud and number one overall pick to the Lizards flaunted his ability the entire tryouts and showed why he is one of the elite in this game.

Steele Stanwick

Stanwick had 30 points this season with the Outlaws as one of their lone bright stars. He is a future quarterback of United States lacrosse and could someday become one of the faces of pro lacrosse. In 2012 he led the nation with 51 assists with the university of Virginia and won the 2012 award for best attackman.

Tucker Durkin

Durkin was the third overall pick in the 2013 draft to the Charlotte Hounds but was then traded to the Hamilton Nationals. He was an all pro defender in his first season with the Nationals though the 6’2 defender didn’t score a single point. He was a Tewaaraton nominee in 2013 as a senior.

Jesse Bernhardt

The fourth overall pick in 2013, Bernhardt proved invaluable for the Bayhawks and should be a leading USA defenseman for years to come. In 2012 he was a second team all American with Maryland along with making the all tournament team.

David Lawson

A fifth round pick to Rochester in 2013, Lawson has proven himself as a pro. With Duke in 2013 he was an all ACC player and scored 34 goals. He scored 23 points in eight games for Rochester to be their third leading scorer.

JoJo Marasco

Marasco got off to a slow start in his first MLL season with the New York Lizards. He was even a late pickup for the team USA tryouts, but he impressed enough to get the nod to remain on the training roster. He scored eight points in his last two games with the Lizards and became their bright spot late in a lost season.

Eric Law

Law broke out in the MLL playoffs by scoring nine goals in the Denver Outlaws playoff loss to the Bayhawks. Law was argued by some lacrosse experts to possibly be the rookie of the year, but though he lost he showed all season he is a true pro.
