Three Stars From the All Stars

6,184 people piled into American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina last night to see a shootout between Team Supernova and Team Eclipse. In the end, Supernova used a nine goal fourth quarter to fuel their 24-15 victory.

Three Stars from the 2013 MLL All-Star Game

  1. In his first all-star appearance, Hamilton’s Kevin Crowley netted three goals and helped on two others to earn the league’s MVP award. Not only did Crowley score the first goal for Team Supernova, he was able to net back to back goals in the fourth quarter to start a nine goal run for Supernova that gave them the victory.

  2. The All-Star game is about celebrating the skills of the league’s best players, but goalie Brett Queener gave fans something that is rarely seen in lacrosse: a goal scored by the goalie. As Team Eclipse was trying to find their way back into the game during the third quarter, Queener took control and ripped a shot that found the back of the net. Although his team came out on the short end, Queener gave fans something to get excited about.

  3. Think about how fast 114 MPH is. Now think about a lacrosse ball traveling at that speed and that’s exactly what fans saw from rookie Mike Sawyer. During the half-time skills competition, Sawyer’s shot set the MLL all-time record for fastest shot. Sawyer was able to reach 114 MPH on his second attempt of the day, after only shooting a measly 113 MPH in his first attempt.
