Thunder Top Lakers in WLA Playoffs Opener

Last night was the first night of the Western Lacrosse Association playoffs, and it was game one between the Langley Thunder and Burnaby Lakers.

The Thunder won the game, 9-8, on a goal from Lewis Ratcliff with 35 seconds left in the game.

The score was tied 6-6 in the second period after a couple of two goal runs from each team. The third period did not see any scoring for nearly seventeen minutes.

Langley was up by two goals in the third, 8-6, before Burnaby tied it with goals from Dane Stevens and Colton Clark. But it would be that last goal from Ratcliff that would win the game for the Thunder.

The Thunder saw three goals from Ratcliff and two goals from Shayne Jackson to lead them. The Lakers leading scorer was Clark with two and Scott Jones also matched that with two of his own.

Dan Lewis made thirty nine saves on 48 shots for the Lakers in a losing effort while Thunder goalie Brodie MacDonald made as many saves and faced one less shot at 47.

Friday night the two teams will face off in Game Two, this time in Burnaby.
