Top MLL Prospects: Goalie

The draft is deep in talented attackmen but there’s a fine crop of goal stoppers rivaling them. Here are some goalies to look out for in Friday’s MLL Draft.

John Kemp, Notre Dame

He was named to the NCAA Championship All-Tournament team and was a First-Team All-American last season. He had a .637 save percentage last season.

Pierce Bassett, Johns Hopkins

He’s a 2013 preseason All-American honorable mention. His six-foot-three-inch and 200 pound frame fills up the goal nicely. He had a 7.47 goals against average last season and a .522 save percentage.

Jeff Lowman, St. John’s

As a junior Lowman helped the Red Storm reach its first Big East championship game and helped lead the program to the most wins in school history. Lowman is fourth on the team’s all-time saves list and was fourth in the NCAA in saves per game (11.67).

Andrew Wascavage, Towson

His stats last season were impressive: a .564 save percentage and 9.57 goals against average. While the team didn’t fare too well, Wascavage held his own against top  opposition. Against a No. 2 ranked Johns Hopkins he made 11 saves and allowed 12 goals. In two games against UMass he made 26 saves and allowed 24 goals.

Steve Rastivo, North Carolina

He played at the historic Ward Melville H.S. in Long Island so he has to have some talent. This will be his third season starting for the Tar Heels after transferring from Penn State. He started all 17 games last season, posting a 10.19 goals against average and .505 save percentage. The Tar Heels usually fare well as a team, so his experience in big games will also be valuable.
