NLL Camp Notes: Rock Conclude First Camp

The Toronto Rock opened training camp last weekend and everything has gone pretty smoothly for the team so far. On Saturday the rock announced that they has signed super star Garrett Billings to a new contract along with resigning Roger Vyse, Kyle Belton and goalie Zac Boychuk to one year deals.

Billings has led the Rock in scoring the past two season along with being a runner up for the league mvp in 2012 and 2013. Billings recorded the first ever back to back 100 point seasons in Rock history along with setting the Rock single season record for points in 2012 with 114 points.

Roger Vyse could be key signing for the Rock as he had a great year in the MSL as he put up 23 goals and 42 assists in 17 games played. Vyse also put up 25 points for the Chiefs on their way to the Mann Cup Championship. If Vyse can put up similar numbers in the NLL this year he will be a steal for the rock as he adds secondary scoring.

Another name turning heads so far at training camp is Ethan O’ Connor the Rock’s first overall pick in 2013. He has been getting high praises from head coach John Lovell for his stick work along with his ability to move up and down the floor. O’Connor just now needs to prove he can have success in a game and will get his chance this preseason.

Lovell has admitted that it will be hard to narrow down the roster 20 men and will need to see how his players adapt in game situations as practice can only tell him so much.

The Rock open their preseason on Saturday night as they host the Colorado Mammoth at the Toronto Athletic Centre. The exhibition is free of charge but only 800 seats are available so make sure to come early to see some great preseason lacrosse action.
