NLL Week Two: What Went Right, What Went Wrong

Calgary Roughnecks  vs  Toronto Rock

Right—Everything went right for the Rock.  Stephan Leblanc was a man possessed in scoring 5 goals, Rob Heller a hat trick, Captain Colin Doyle and Josh Sanderson 2 goals each.  Garrett Billings a 10 point performance with a goal and nine assists.  Nick Rose was solid stopping 40 of 51 shots.  For Calgary Jeff Shattler led the way with 4 goals. Geoff Snider went 18/28 on face-offs, Roughnecks went 3-3 on the powerplay, Shawn Evans 1 goal 7 assists

Wrong—Not much went wrong for the Rock except they went 0-3 in killing off the penalty.  For Calgary they fell behind early and were never able to recover, too many penalties.  Mike Poulin struggled.

Vancouver Stealth  vs  Colorado Mammoth

Right—Colorado after taking an early lead and falling behind at the half, the Mammoth took control in the third quarter. Pollock, Jones, Westervelt had hat-tricks, Grant Jr, 1G/4A.  Dillon Ward again played well in relief to get his first NLL win.  For Vancouver, Rhys Duch 4 goals, Tyler Digby 3G/3A, and Alex Gajic 7 assists. Power-play was 2-2 while they also killed off the only powerplay chance for Colorado, a 5 minute major to Kyle Sorenson for spearing.

Wrong—Colorado starting goalie Tye Belanger was again pulled after about twenty minutes allowing 4 goals on 13 shots.  Unable to score during a five minute power-play. Outscored 5-1 in second quarter.  For Vancouver, being dominated on face-offs, allowing 3 goals in 30 seconds, Lewis Ratcliff only 1 goal.
