What is the Prospects Lacrosse League?

Yesterday we learned about yet another new lacrosse league coming to fruition in the next year. The PLL. No, not that PLL, a different PLL. The Prospects Lacrosse League. Unlike the other new lacrosse leagues, this is an outdoor league.

The Prospects Lacrosse League will be a collegiate summer league for NCAA and club players from throughout the country, and it will try to serve as a minor league to Major League Lacrosse.

“The Prospect Lacrosse League is the first and only summer collegiate lacrosse league in North America.” said Joe Stefani, the commissioner.  “The main purpose of the league is to give collegiate lacrosse players a chance to play competitive environment in a minor league sports atmosphere (i.e. lots of fans, professional run websites, sponsorships, live audio/video of all home games, etc).”

Stefani says the league wants as many Division One players as possible, but they need to be realistic. He says with lots of club teams turning Varsity in the midwest, now is a great opportunity for players.

“All of the teams in the league (four-teams) will be owned by the league, which is owned by Windy City Sports & Entertainment, which also owns two summer collegiate baseball teams as well as a fraternity clothing company.  Expansion with outside ownership groups will start for the 2014 season, which will be the second year for the league.” says Stefani.

The commissioner says over the next several months we will see announcements about once a month, but as the season gets close, updates will be coming in fast and furious.

“All games will be played in the Chicago and surrounding markets at all collegiate facilities.” he says. “One thing we will be doing during our Inaugural Season is have two games outside of the Chicago market to help explore expansion opportunities outside of the market and help grow the league.”

Stefani says the league has been in process for nearly eighteen months now and after year one they will look to expand beyond the midwest. He finishes up saying, “Fans can follow the league through a few different ways.  1.) The league website www.ProspectLacrosseLeague.com  2.) Facebook and 3.) Twitter @PLacrosseLeague”
