WLA Preview: Battle of the Undefeated

On Friday night the two remaining undefeated teams face off in the WLA as the (3-0) Victoria Shamrocks host the (3-0) Langley Thunder. At the end of the night it will be clear who the top team in the WLA is at this early stage in the season.

Langley’s game plan going into this game is to obviously try to slow down Victoria’s offense or to beat Victoria to the punch and build a lead early.  Langley has shown the ability this season to string together consecutive goals which has allowed them to overwhelm the opposition. Langley’s big four of Athan Iannucci, Alex Turner, Joel McCready, and Shayne Jackson. These four though should give Victoria stiff test in this game.  Langley will need to lean on their defense and Brodie MacDonald who has been stellar this year posting a 6.00 G.A.A.  Langley will be in for a battle but they have all the tools to beat Victoria.

Coming into this season the Victoria Shamrocks offseason changes were the big story. So far Victoria has lived up to all the preseason hype. Victoria offense has been firing on all cylinders as they have four players in the top ten in scoring. Victoria will need to spread the ball around and get sustained pressure on Brodie MacDonald. Victoria has also gotten help on the back end from Matt Flindell who has been stellar and posted a 7.00 G.A.A.  Victoria will be in tough but their ability to create sustained offense will enable them to win this game.

In the end this game will come down which goalie breaks first. Both goalies have been great this season and but both will face dynamic offenses which will help to prove which goalie is for real and which goalie is on a hot steak. This game promises to be a back and forth match up and it is basically a coin toss to see who will win as both teams are even. Though in the end a slight edge has to go to Victoria due to the way their offense has been scoring at will.  This game will come down to the wire and one team will emerge undefeated while one  will go home with their first loss.
