The Wolves won their second European Lacrosse League tournament in a row this past weekend as they went 3-0 as they prepare for the playoffs in two weeks.Several teams gained boosters this week with new players, but no one benefited more than the Custodes. They gained American goaltender Patrick Crosby and defenseman George Castle along with Canadian Marco Hill and Czech Dominik Pesek.
However, the Custodes finished in last at 1-2 in the tournament. They took their first game against Pietro Filipi 9-8 for their only win. In that game the Custodes scored two of the last three goals to pick up the win as Radek Skala led them once again with four goals. Crosby made 38 saves in the game while new Filipi goaltender Ginny Capicchioni made 17.
Game two saw the Wolves win their first game over Deutschland Adler 10-7. Jiri Kostal scored four times for the Wolves. The Wolves played again later and gave Pietro Filipi their second loss with an 8-3 victory. Kostal once again scored three times as Jakub Mares made 23 saves.
The Custodes lost their first game against Deutschland Adler 12-10. Brian Tyacke scored six goals for the Adler to account for half of the overall goals scored. The game winner, however, came off of the stick of Pavel Dosly for his third goal of the game. Castle scored his first goal in this game while Pesek scored three in the loss.
The next day Deutschland played Filipi and lost 10-5. Tomáš Procházka scored twice in the win and Capicchioni made 15 saves. The last game was between the Wolves and Custodes and the Wolves took it 14-11. Once again, Kostal scored five times.
The next tournament is on October 19th as the playoffs kick off. The rosters are now set and we have a feel for these teams as the stretch run is upon us.
